PETALING JAYA: Petaling Badminton Club are the Junior Purple League champions again.
Thanks to a 13-8 win over Puchong United in Sunday’s morning matches, Petaling Jaya BC were assured of the title for the second straight year with an unassailable 116 points.
Later in the evening, Petaling BC lost 7-13 to Ampang Jaya BC at the Challenge Sports Centre in Ampang but it did not dampen the players’ celebrations. It was Petaling BC’s first loss of the season.
Kepong BC finished second with 98 points and BU Dragons BC came in third on 97 points.
Petaling BC head coach Yap Kim Hock was pleased to see his side retain the title.
“We won this time despite having more local players in our team. We are heading in the right direction (in developing young talents).
“I’m very proud of the players, especially Leong Jun Hao, Chen Tang Jie and Chasinee Korepap (of Thailand),” said Kim Hock, a former national coach.
In the battle for the Division Two crown, Bandar Maharani BC emerged champions after a 13-7 win over Tebrau City BC.
